Morning arrival in Milan Airport, exchange some dollars for Italian
lire, and board our deluxe motor coach for a transfer to Padova.
Lunch on the way and afternoon free to rest after we arrive.
Dinner and overnight in Padova, near Venice.

April 18, 2001
After a ride on the Grand Canal, the morning is devoted to a guided
walking tour of Venice, including the Doge’s Palace and Piazza San
Marco. The afternoon is free
for shopping or sightseeing or watching the scene from a café table in
San Marco. Dinner and
overnight in Padova, near Venice.

Morning departure by motor coach to Florence.
On the way we stop in Ravenna to see the finest mosaics in western
Europe, art with a Byzantine influence.
After lunch we continue to Tuscany and Florence.
Dinner and overnight in our Montecatini hotel.
Friday,
April 20, 2001
This morning we have a guided walking tour of Florence including
the Duomo, Baptistry, and the Academia featuring The David by
Michelangelo. Then our motor coach will take us to view other art and
cultural highlights of the city. The
afternoon is free for independent sightseeing in this most walkable city
center. Dinner and overnight
at our Montecatini hotel.

The day is committed to guided touring in Tuscany beyond Florence.
We will visit the towns of Pisa and San Gimignano along with
beautiful vistas as we travel through the Tuscany hills.

This morning we transfer by motor coach to the hills, valleys,
olive trees and vineyards of Umbria.
Our guided visit is to the ancient and exciting town of Orvieto. This
ancient pre-Roman town site has a dazzling cathedral of Romanesque and
Gothic architecture. In the
afternoon we continue to our hotel for dinner and overnight in Umbria.
Our hotel is located in an interesting medieval convent.

The day is committed to sightseeing by motor coach in Assisi the
home of Saint Francis and Perugia, a remarkable stone hill town with
stunning views over the countryside.

Morning departure by motor coach south past Rome to Sorrento. Afternoon
arrival in Sorrento for dinner and overnight.

Morning motor coach ride and lunch along the beautiful and famous
Amalfi Coast road leading to Paestum.
The ride offers excitement and endless sea vistas.
The ancient Greek city of Paestum has Greek temples equal to those
in Athens. Our guided tour
will explain this majestic site and fine museum.
Late afternoon motor coach return to Sorrento for dinner and
overnight.

walking tour of this Roman archaeological site preserved by the AD 79

The morning is devoted to a guided tour by coach of major Latin
attractions in Rome, including the Pantheon, the Coliseum and Forum.
Afternoon is free for independent sightseeing, shopping, or sitting

The morning offers an exciting guided walking tour of Christian
Rome, including the Vatican and especially the Sistine Chapel.
This last afternoon of the tour is free for any special activity
you choose. Our guide will advise you and answer your questions.

Early morning transfer by motor coach from our Rome hotel to the
airport for our flight back to the USA.
The tour pace is
leisurely, but each day will offer an array of culturally interesting
events. Our hotels and food
are high quality and include wine or beer and coffee with dinner.
Martin Attwood, a guide and historian we have used previously, will
offer superior assistance and Italian translations and he will be
supplemented by English speaking Italian tour guides as needed each day.
We are assisted in planning and conducting this tour by Vera
Eugenia Vierucci of Terni, Italy. She
has helped us before. The
pleasant climate and beauty of Italy will be evident to us in April.
