Monday, April 26, 1999: Departure from Cincinnati, Ohio, for overnight flight direct to Paris, France. Meals en route. Tuesday, April 27, 1999: Morning arrival in Paris. Board our Weber motor coach for a sightseeing drive through central Paris and then on to Chartres for a stop at the great cathedral with elements of Romanesque and transistional Gothic architecture and superb stained glass windows. These windows are considered the greatest achievement in this art form. In the afternoon we arrive at Blois and our hotel. Dinner and overnight in Blois on the Loire River. Wednesday, April 28, 1999: Enjoy a morning of guided sightseeing at the first of France's great classical palaces, the Chateau de Chambord. We return to Blois at noon for a relaxing afternoon in this historic city. Blois Chateau and the city center are near our hotel for those who wish more sightseeing. Dinner at the wonderful Restaurant Esperance and overnight in Blois. Thursday, April 29, 1999: Our day is devoted to guided sightseeing. First we visit Le Clos Luce, the last home of Leonardo da Vinci, now a musuem with 40 models constructed by IBM from the master's drawings. We continue our touring in the Royal Chateau d'Amboise. After lunch we visit the famous Chateau de Chenonceau, constructed over the River Cher. Dinner on your own and a free evening and overnight in Blois. Friday, April 30, 1999: Morning motor coach ride southwest past Tours to Poitiers and Limoges where we will visit the museum of Haviland and Limoges china. In the afternoon we will continue through the Dordogne River Valley to Saint Cere and our charming coutryside hotel. Dinner and overnight in our Hotel Les Trois Soleils de Montal. Saturday, May 1, 1999: Our morning is devoted to a guided walking tour of Pech-Merle Cave with its priceless 18,000 year old prehistoric paintings. You will thrill to the sight of prehistoric handprints and footprints. In the afternoon we will have a guided visit to the tiny medieval pilgrimage town of Rocamadour that clings dramatically to the cliffs of the Alzore River gorge. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel Les Trois Soleils de Montal, Saint Cere. Sunday, May 2, 1999: Our Sunday morning is free to visit in the town of Saint Cere. In the afternoon we have a guide on the bus to three nearby medieval villages of Autoire, Locebressac and Carennac. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel Les Trois Soleils de Montal, Saint Cere. Monday, May 3, 1999: Depart by motor coach via Cahors to 12th century Carcassonne, the largest fortified city in Europe, which stands above the Aude River like a turreted Walt Disney creation. We arrive in the early afternoon and have a one hour guided tour of the fortress. Dinner and overnight in Carcassonne. Tuesday, May 4, 1999: Today we have a morning drive on the French Autoroute of the South past Montpelleir and Nimes to the medival village of Uzes and the country Chateau Hotel d'Arpaillargues. Time to relax prior to dinner and overnight in this beautiful old hotel. Wednesday, May 5, 1999: Today we enjoy a guided sightseeing tour by motor coach in Uzes, and Nimes to see the great Roman amphitheatre, and on through the Camargue, a unique nature park and ecological preserve of southern France. Dinner and overnight at the country Chateau Hotel d'Arpaillargues. Thursday, May 6, 1999: Our day is devoted to Avignon, the city of Popes. A short motor coach ride from our hotel on the way to Avignon we see the Roman aqueduct of Pont du Gard. We have a one hour guided tour of the Palace of Popes prior to noon, and the afternoon is free for independent sightseeing in Avignon. Dinner and overnight at the country Chateau Hotel d'Arpaillargues. Friday, May 7, 1999: Our drive this morning is across Provence and the French Riviera regions. We will stop in the town of Vence to see the Chagall chapel, his masterpiece. We continue to Monaco via Nice. We stay on the Monaco-Cap D'Ail border in a Marriot Hotel at the edge of the sea. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. Saturday, May 8, 1999: The day begins with a visit to the Monaco Oceanographic Museum made known to us by Jacques Cousteau. We continue to the Palace and overlook the city. Later you are free to visit the casino or do independent sightseeing in Monaco. Dinner in Monaco and overnight at the Marriot Hotel. Sunday, May 9, 1999: Transfer to the airport at Nice, France for our Delta flight to New York and Cincinnati. |
