Thursday, September 19, 2002
Morning arrival in Frankfurt. Board our Weber motor coach for transfer to
the Rhine River and a boat trip among the castles of the middle Rhine. Our
motor coach will meet us later for an afternoon transfer to Luxembourg and
our hotel. Dinner and overnight in Luxembourg.
Friday, September 20, 2002
Our morning is devoted to a combination bus and walking guided tour of the
beautiful city of Luxembourg, concluding with a visit to the nearby United
States and German Military Cemeteries from World War II. After an early
afternoon period of free time, our group will go by bus to the Miami
University John E. Dolibois European Center for a reception and dinner.
Overnight in Luxembourg.
Saturday, September 21, 2002
Our day begins with two lectures by Emile Haag featuring Luxembourg in the
history of Europe and modern Luxembourg as an important center of the
European Union. After lunch we go guided sightseeing in northern Luxembourg
featuring the Battle of the Bulge Museum in Diekirch and the beautifully
restored 1,000-year-old Vianden Castle. Dinner in Vianden prior to our
overnight in Luxembourg.
Sunday, September 22, 2002
Our morning guided sightseeing centers on the Moselle River and its wine
industry, so important to the border regions of Luxembourg and Germany. We
will take time for wine tasting and lunch prior to an afternoon guided
walking tour of Trier, the oldest German city, complete with exciting Roman
heritage. Return to Luxembourg for dinner on your own in the city square and
overnight in Luxembourg.
Monday, September 23, 2002
Today we transfer by bus to Brugge, Belgium, the town with unique Flemish
architecture. On the way we will visit the pleasant towns of Wiltz in
Northern Luxembourg and Bastogne, Belgium. We can study the museum diorama
describing progress of the famous Battle of the Bulge. Dinner and overnight
in Brugge.
Tuesday, September 24, 2002
The morning is devoted to a guided walking tour of Brugge. The afternoon is
free for independent sightseeing, museum visits, or lace shopping in Brugge.
Dinner on your own and overnight in Brugge.
Wednesday, September 25, 2002
Today we will enjoy a drive from Belgium along the scenic northern coast of
France past Calais, Boulogne and Rouen, the Joan of Arc city. We will arrive
in historic Normandy in the afternoon, prior to dinner and overnight.
Thursday, September 26, 2002
This morning we will enjoy guided sightseeing in Normandy including Omaha
Beach and Arromanches with its museum of the 1944 D-day landings. In the
afternoon there will be free time to relax, shop or sightsee in a typical
Norman village. Dinner and overnight in Normandy.
Friday, September 27, 2002
Our second day in Normandy will allow time to see the famous Bayeux tapestry
with its history of the 1066 Norman conquest of England. We will also
examine other exhibits in the area of Bayeux including the paratrooper
museum at Saint Mere Eglise and Utah invasion Beach. Dinner on your own and
overnight in Normandy.
Saturday, September 28, 2002
Morning departure from Normandy by our motor coach past Rouen and then along
the Seine River toward Paris. After a rest stop and lunch, we will stop at
the Chateau at Versailles for a visit prior to going on to dinner and
overnight at our Paris hotel.
Sunday, September 29, 2002
Our morning guided coach tour of Paris will view the Arc de Triomphe, the
Opera, Eiffel Tower, Champs-Elysees, the Left Bank, Sorbonne, and the
Invalides. We will walk into Notre Dame for a close look at this magnificent
cathedral. The afternoon is free for independent time in Paris. Dinner and
overnight in Paris.
Monday, September 30, 2002
Our morning is committed to a guided walking tour of selected art works in
the Louvre. The afternoon is free for independent activity in Paris. Dinner
on your own and overnight in Paris.
Tuesday, October 1, 2002
Morning transfer by motor coach to the Paris, Charles de Gaulle Airport for
our flight to the United States.
The tour pace is leisurely, but each day will offer a variety of culturally
interesting events. Our hotels and food are high quality, with locations
convenient to our sightseeing interests. Francis and Maisy Dumont of
Luxembourg will offer superior assistance and a European perspective as
guides and translators. Dick Smith will offer geographical commentary and an
orientation lecture before we go; and Emile Haag will offer historical
commentary in Luxembourg about the areas we visit. Ekkehard Stiller will
host us at the Miami University John E. Dolibois European Center. We also
have local tour guides in each region. The tour is planned to educate you as
